The 2900-01 Front End Processor is a system featuring eight T1/E1 ports, that maybe ATM or TDM, and Four 10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet ports. The system uses a Dual Core PowerPC processor as a "main" processor and a Power QUICC (Power PC based Communication Processor) as the "link" processor. 2900 is available in AC or DC versions and features two redundant, hot swappable removable power supplies. Each system also monitors power supply, fan status and temperature in an effort to detect and provide early alert to component failures.

The system will operate properly with a single fan failure. The fans are field replaceable by exchanging the fan tray.
